She’s In Red

I have a thing for leather trenches & old Valentino

Trench coats seem to be a bit of a hit or miss for people, but it’s a definite conditional hit for me. There are some sickass trenches out there, ahem this Margiela raw hemmed stunner, but you’d be hard pressed to find me in a basic, more “classic” trench. Hence, the leather trench, an easy way to update a pretty standard look. I’ve worn my black one (see it in a post here) to death in the past two years, to the point where it’s lost any coolness I used to think it has, so when my sister gave me this one, which incidentally was passed down to her from my aunt, I couldn’t say no! I love the western belt detailing on the back and the bathrobe-like closure – anything to give me a defined waist is a win in my book.

There’s a few new items here amidst my overworn AF1s and cargos, like my mom’s very 2004-ish Valentino bag. She wore this a lot when we were living in Paris, and all I can remember is that it clearly doesn’t close very well seeing as she was pickpocketed at least four times in one year. But! I just love it, and I carry my card in my coat and my phone in hand, so really good luck to whoever tries to pick my pockets. I’m wearing new Retrosuperfuture sunglasses too, and since I’ve been back to London, I’ve stubbornly been plopping these on my face, trying to pretend it’s a foggy pink out, instead of a foggy grey. Power of positive thinking, no?

Back in August my sister and I took some photos for her friend’s brand, Lacausa, and here we are, doing part 2 in San Onofre after a bit of surfing and food. Looking super happy here – nothing like a bit of sun and sand after a couple cold months in London. I’m back in LA for the holidays and I could not be happier about it!! We were sent the Uniform trousers, ultra hi-waist, ultra flattering, and their Cameron blouse, the perfect amount of sheer and flared sleeves. The Adidas slides are a bit 2014, but I think a little heeled sandal or boot would make it work for winter. I can’t wait to wear this top to death, there’s nothing I love more than a shirt with only two buttons buttoned. Overall, A+ on cut and quality.

I’ve recently had a bit of a breakthrough with my mindset lately, and I could not be more relieved. I started my blog purely to work on photography, image composition and digital design – generally to do what I do at work, but with a bit more freedom – but the past few months I’ve been super bogged down by the numbers! The engagements, the page views, the followers, etc…It put a huge huge damper on everything I did and worst of all, I absolutely hate agonising over Instagram even though I knowwww it’s a big part of the whole thing.

It’s hard trying to grow a passion project as pouring all your free time into a project and not seeing it grow as fast as you’d like is really disheartening, and I definitely felt my inspiration and my drive dying because of it. I’ll be honest – I suck at Instagram and I know I’m a bit silly in disregarding it, but there’s a fakeness there that I’m not into. I’d rather follow people than follow blogs or accounts that try and make content from nothing.

That being said, since I stopped caring so much about the numbers and have tapped back into actively pursuing the creativity of it, I feel so much more invigorated. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I changed the typography a bit, widened the page so I can play around with the layout more and display images larger – all things I truly care about.

Now, another thing I care about – heattech turtlenecks from Uniqlo. They are a total godsend for a girl who hates layering. I got this Solace London bodysuit in their sample sale a couple weeks ago, and I’m wearing it backwards here as the actual band that’s meant to go over your boobs would definitely not work for mine. I love the cut-out detail on the back though – I feel it adds something different and I cannot wait to wear it in summer w/bare skin peeking out. I wish I picked up other things from the sale, but I think it’s all old Solace, the new pieces are SO MUCH BETTER. Gotta keep my eyes peeled for more sample sales in the future ;).
